Here’s what prosecutors say the senator and his wife got:Gold barsProsecutors say Hana and Daibes gave Menendez and his wife gold bars, which were seized by the FBI from the Menendez residence. After returning from a trip to Egypt and getting a ride home from the airport from Daibes’ driver, prosecutors say Menendez searched online for the price of a gold bar. Nadine Menendez needed a new car, apparently after hitting and killing a jaywalker in Bogota, New Jersey, in December 2018. There is a long list of actions prosecutors say Menendez undertook in exchange for all of these alleged bribes. The envelopes of cash prosecutors say bore Daibes’ fingerprints may be more difficult to explain.

Bill Stone, chief investment officer at Glenview Trust, has attended 20 Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meetings in Omaha, Nebraska. A longtime Warren Buffett disciple and a Berkshire shareholder since 1999, Stone's own investing style has been inspired by the "Oracle of Omaha" — a value-oriented approach with an emphasis on the so-called margin of safety. "You look at stocks, not as pieces of paper, but as businesses," he said in CNBC's latest Pro Talks . Can I possibly forecast that they'll continue to earn these profits?" Ahead of this year's "Woodstock for Capitalists" Saturday, Stone shared what he's learned from Buffett's investing philosophy and what he expects from the annual meeting without the late Charlie Munger.

Read previewThe release of Forbes' annual rundown of the world's billionaires has underlined a glaring omission from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index: Michael Bloomberg himself. Forbes ranked the 82-year-old Bloomberg LP founder in 12th place with an estimated $106 billion fortune as of March 8. Based on Forbes' wealth estimate, Bloomberg would be in joint 12th position with Michael Dell (also $106 billion) as of Thursday. A Saudi man's reflection is seen in mirror glass at the Future Investment Initiative conference, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, October 25, 2022. Geopolitical tensions heightened by the Middle East conflict pose the biggest threat to the world economy, World Bank President Ajay Banga said. The conflict could upset the stability of the Middle East just as regional powerhouse Saudi Arabia pours hundreds of billions of dollars into a vast economic transformation plan. Saudi Arabia is putting U.S.-backed plans to normalise ties with Israel on ice, two sources familiar with Riyadh's thinking said, signalling a rapid rethinking of its foreign policy priorities as war rages between Israel and Hamas. The last year has seen Saudi Arabia spend billions on companies, from sports to gaming to aviation.

When she heard about the U.S. government’s plan to restart deportation flights to Venezuela in the coming days, Carrillo said it was discouraging. One migrates because you have basic needs and there isn’t support in your native country,” she said, starting to cry. But now the administration has decided Venezuela is not bad enough to keep them from deporting migrants back there. She said Venezuelans are fleeing their country out of desperation and will continue to come. If deported, “I would do it (migrate) again to work and to get my family ahead.”___Salomon reported from Miami.

Nike has also experienced competition from other sneaker brands, including Deckers' (DECK.N) Hoka, On Running (ONON.N) and French-owned sports retailer Salomon, as shoppers gravitate toward "performance" shoes. Nike CEO John Donahoe said the company would turn its attention to "prioritizing the everyday runner" and connecting with shoppers in more channels, including specialty running stores. The company posted total revenue of $12.94 billion in the quarter, missing analysts' estimates of $12.98 billion. Nike reported a profit of $1.45 billion, or 94 cents per share, beating estimates of 75 cents per share.

Some investors are concerned the Jordan brand, a major source of sales for Nike, may be "losing steam," Bernstein analysts said on Sunday. The company does not report what percent of its total revenues come from the Jordan brand. Sales of performance shoes from Nike's Jordan brand have also outpaced retro styles, which include Air Jordan 1 high-tops, Donahoe said in June. Donahoe told investors in June that the company had "reset" its running business, highlighting updates to existing styles including its Infinity road running shoes and Pegasus trail running shoes.

“For years, forces behind the scenes have repeatedly attempted to silence my voice and dig my political grave,” Menendez said in a statement. It's a sign, those who know Menendez said, that he won't be going anywhere without a fight, for now. His own biography touts the fact that he wanted to fight corruption early in his political career, testifying against Union City officials and building a reputation as tough. Menendez was appointed to be a U.S. senator in 2006 when the seat opened up after incumbent Jon Corzine became governor. The couple began dating in 2018 and got engaged in 2019 after meeting at an IHOP in Union City, a frequent haunt of Menendez’s.

CNN —New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez was charged on Friday with corruption-related offenses for the second time in 10 years. Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menendez, are accused of accepting “hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes” in exchange for the senator’s influence, according to the newly unsealed federal indictment. This is the second set of corruption charges levied against Menendez by the Justice Department in a decade. Beginning in April, his wife sold gold bars worth as much as $400,000, according to the senator’s most recent financial disclosure form. Sen. Menendez serves as the powerful chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. And as chairman, he had unique influence over foreign military sales and foreign military financing. The State Department typically seeks the input of the chairperson and top minority senator on the Foreign Relations panel when it comes to foreign military financing and foreign military sales, and the department generally will not go forward if one of the two senators objects. Hana is a friend of Nadine Menendez and the Egyptian-American founder of a business that certifies beef imported into Egypt meets Islamic religious standards. “Congratulations mon amour de la vie, we are the proud owners of a 2019 Mercedes,” Nadine Menendez texted her husband, along with a heart emoji.

His wife, Jill Costelloe Birinyi, said the cause was chronic heart failure. Mr. Birinyi (pronounced BUH-ree-nee), a former equities analyst at Salomon Brothers who founded his own money management firm in Westport, Conn., argued that the market had not only a history but also a “psychology,” and he used this insight as the basis for his market predictions. The public began to sense that Mr. Birinyi was onto something in the 1990s. As a frequent guest of “Wall Street Week,” a popular show on PBS (and, briefly, CNBC) hosted by Louis Rukeyser, Mr. Birinyi again and again won an annual stock-picking competition among panelists. CNN —At least 16 people have been killed and 36 more injured following a bus crash Tuesday on central Mexico’s Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway, according to officials. The bus, which was carrying locals and migrants, collided with a trailer truck on the highway near the border between the states of Oaxaca and Puebla, Oaxaca’s Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. The injured were transferred to hospitals in Puebla for medical attention. The reason for the collision is unknown, but the prosecutor’s office has said they will conduct an expert-led investigation to uncover what events unfolded that led up to the crash and determine if anyone should be held liable. “I have instructed the heads of the relevant authorities to collaborate and support the injured people,” the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, said on X, formally known as Twitter.
